Music: one of the biggest mysteries of man

The science show Labyrinth from the Dutch VPRO broadcasting company has a very interesting episode about music. I always wondered myself how music works, that a couple of frequencies can convey an emotion.

Wondering the same? (and speak Dutch?..), then don’t miss this:

Scoring all the way

At the moment I’m still using Cubase 4 and it’s perfect for use in a small studio, but the score options leave a few things to be desired. I can’t get a decent output to PDF. The export function in Cubase doesn’t render good. You can get high resolution .gif files, but manually converting them to PDF yields layout errors such as partly blurred lines.

But! a great open source alternative is MuseScore.org!:

There’s still some manual conversion needed, but MuseScore let’s you enter far more detail to the score. Probably Sibelius is somewhat better, but rather expensive for my studio needs.

I now have the complete score (up to bar 28, that is) from my ’95 track ready to show my scoring skills! Click below for the PDF, it’s free!:

Run Full Circle

The new instrumental track is out! By some it is described as a mix between Dream Theater and Marillion, which is very flattering!

The song is about reaching harmony, but following an intens path to get there, but I’m curious to know what other people feel as they listen to this piece.

So check it out @Soundcloud! :

Or the JoccaS Player on this site of course.

And last but not least the site of my mixer/masterer/producer:

(search the audio portfolio for JoccaS)

Dark Flight

Way back in ’95 I made a short soundtrack for a fictional documentary with the equipment of that time, that is to say, even older equipment ;-)

Namely: An Atari 1040ST, a Boss soundmodule and a Yamaha DX7. I think I recorded it as a wave file on one of the 1st Pentium DOS/Windows computers.

So check it out, is has a particular intens bassline!

Sin-Cere

From 2008 to 2010 I have been involved in gothic metal coverproject Sin-Cere. The project has recently ended. I’d like to tell more about it, but I couldn’t do it better than my ex-singer Laura.

Webbin’ for Wolf

I’ve been working on 2 sites, but I have decided to focus more on music. I will use my HTML & CSS & PHP & WordPress knowledge for my own site, wich will come in handy!

Below you can click on the screenshots for the sites I made for 2 gifted musicians:

WolfMartini.com:
Wolf is a classy jazz/soul player, check him out:

WolfMartini.com

For musician Joel Scannell and his fellow-performer I made the Just2.nu site:

Just2.nu

Just2.nu has been a nice project with coöperation of a graphical designer, a photographer and an expert in the Dutch language. Most of the code and graphics are mine though.
